The sources that are easiest to find are internet sources. Because there are many theories about music and mental/personality development, its somewhat easy to find on the internet. On the other hand, academic journals and books are concerned, it is almost impossible to find a source. If research has been done on this subject, no substantial academic journals have be published or made available. From the sources I have found so far, the majority of them dealing with effects of different genres of music have had some sort of stereotype in them. For instance, in articles/case studies about heavy metal music, the most common stereotype was anger problems. In my opinion this is wrong. For me, this genre of music calms me down and seems to take away any frustration/problems I have.
Aside from articles and case studies, I found a Youtube video that does a good job of showing how music affects our mental capabilities. It shows how a man who is bound to a wheelchair and hardly speaks is affected by music. I also have an interview set up with a good friend of mine, Ramin Niroomand, who is the guitarist for In Fear and Faith (world touring band), producer and pianist. It would be interesting to see how music is seen and felt through someone who is around it everyday.
