Finding sources for my research has been relatively easy as there is a lot of arguments for and against my topic. Being as that my paper is over a government policy instituted in China it is easy to find government articles and as with many policies all over the world your always going to have people who agree and disagree and make sure to tell the world why or why not. The internet has made finding sources very easy because there is a lot out there on this topic.Although finding sources has been easy its hard to find really good ones with hard facts supporting their arguments because there are a lot of one sided opinions as to why the writer agrees or disagrees and without any reliable sources or hard evidence I'm not going to use them as a source for my paper.
I originally was going to argue that the Chinese one child per family policy was detrimental to the long term success of Chinese society however i ended up talking to someone who had moved to the United States from China and was an only child as a result of the policy in China.I talked to her for quite a bit and explained my paper and my research and how I felt about it being bad for China. She told me that i was looking at this from a very "American" perspective (which wasn't necessarily wrong) and that I should look at it from her perspective and see how it really was successful. She explained to me that the policy was put into effect to control a massive population that was growing too fast and needed some kind of control. She said the Chinese society as a whole is a lot happier now and the are richer now than they ever have been and by controlling the population growth the long term effects will be better for China. In my research I found that the policy has already prevented somewhere around 400 million births and when I look at it from this angle I can see the policy's success and because of this conversation my argument flip flopped and now I'm arguing the success of the policy and how an Americans perspective on certain world issues can turn something intended to be good into something bad just by looking at it from another viewpoint.
As I mentioned above some of my obstacles have been finding sources that are reliable. There are tons and tons of opinions and such out there but finding good reliable sources with hard facts and data tends to be a little more difficult to come across. Now that my argument has changed I'm going to have to go about my research a little differently than originally planned but I'm fine with that because I like the way its going and I like that i was able to go into this thinking one thing and by diving into research i was able to change my own opinion and look at something from a different perspective.
